An urban oasis in Center City

RAS served as lead designer for this new garden space, a collaboration between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Drexel University. Located at the intersection of 32nd and Market Street, The Gateway Garden at Drexel showcases urban horticulture at its finest and serves as a vibrant entrance to Drexel’s campus.

Collaborators:
  • Philadelphia Horticultural Society

Scope

In developing the design, RAS facilitated planning workshops with diverse stakeholders including students and community representatives. The Gateway Garden incorporates their desire for flexible seating options and rich plantings, as well as open areas for planned and spontaneous performances. Theatrical landscape lighting and the inclusion of artwork enriches the garden experience. Custom built raised planters frame the seating spaces. Careful consideration was given to access for maintenance and food trucks.
